Sleipnir In the Underworld
Sleipnir is an eight legged horse and is one of Odin’s many Shamanic spirits. Odin often uses Sleipnir to travel between the Nine Worlds on his quest to acquire knowledge.
In the story of The Death of Baldr,
Baldr, Odin’s son (God of the Sun and most beloved of all the Gods) became plagued by nightmares of the death of his Mother and Father. Worried, Frigg made every object on this earth swear to never harm Baldr, all save the mistletoe. Loki in secret forged a spear laced with mistletoe which he gave to Baldr's brother, the blind god Höðr. Tricked by Loki Höðr killed his own brother. Odin's other son Hermóðr takes up the task to free Baldr from Hels dominion. Hermóðr takes Sleipnir to journey down to Helheim (The Land of the Dead) to seek an audience with Hel (Loki's Daughter Queen of The Dead) to discuss the freeing of Baldr from her realm. Only Sleipnir has the strength to jump over the gates that block the entry to the Land of the Dead.
We must use Sleipnir ourselves to travel to our own underworld. Only you can free the God of Light that is trapped there and return him to the world above.
Printed on canvas and custom framed.
Frame dimensions are 24’’ x 20’’
